(CCSI)

In conjunction with the Cognitive Science Society meetings in Washington D.C. the Consortium on Cognitive Science Instruction will have its annual meeting Wednesday Evening, July 23, 2008.
Membership in the Consortium is free and open to all. If you would like to join the Consortium, please send your name, current position, email, phone number, and areas of interest to Peter Bradley (pbradley@mcdaniel.edu or pbradl42@gmail.com).
For the past several years, members of the Cognitive Science Society have been working behind the scenes to develop Internet services for an international consortium dedicated to the promotion and support of education in the cognitive and learning sciences.

A repository for all forms of digitial content support teaching and research in the cognitive sciences
The CCSI Blog
A forum for the discussion of everything relating to teaching and research in the cognitive sciences.
The Consortium is expanding its leadership base and will be taking nominations for an open election to fill at least two new slots on each the following four committees:
Steering Committee
Archive Oversight Committee
Website Services Committee
Student Research Committee
While nominations will be taken from the floor during the meeting, we encourage nominations by email in advance of the meeting so that biographical information can be prepared in advance. We will require a short bio (not to exceed 150 words) of each person who agrees to be considered for election. We will request a bio from people who have been nominated. For those people self-nominating, please submit your bio with the nomination. Please send nominations to David Anderson (dlanders@ilstu.edu) with the following information included:
1. Your name, position, email, phone #.
2. Which committee is the nomination for?
3. Name, position, email, phone # of person BEING nominated (if different from 1.).
4. 150 word bio (if this is a self nomination)
Elections for committee membership will be held in September via email -- so all CCSI members have an opportunity to vote.
The agenda for the meeting is still in development. If you have items that you would like considered for inclusion in the agenda, please send them to the chair of the program committee. A tentative agenda follows:

Welcome
1. Introduction to the Consortium on Cognitive Science Instruction
2. Demonstration of Online Services
New Business
3. Discussion of a proposed Consortium sponsored online journal in cog sci pedagogy (theory & practice) and in education research.
4. Recruiting of beta-testers for online services and instructors to pilot new curriculum modules
5. Discussion of proposal to seek official acknowledgement by the Cog Sci Society and other professional organizations (e.g., Southern Society of Psychology and Philosophy)
6. Discussion of proposal to form a committee to promote educational research on the effectiveness of interactive, computer-mediated instruction.
7. Nominations taken from the floor for Committee Membership. (Nominations can also be sent in advance by email and are encouraged – see below).
We encourage you to join the CCSI and, if at all possible, to join us in Washington DC. We encourage comments and suggestions about the future direction of the Consortium.
